Joy in a pandemic

I ended up drinking half a bottle of lovely pink wine last night. Running after alcohol is not always a great idea, and I don’t do it on serious runs. It doesn’t help with the weight loss either, but there has to be some joy in a pandemic. And it was a beautiful evening. Anything is possible

Forgot to write up my run from yesterday, four miles, which is the furthest I have gone in a while. Time to extend the distances in preparation for marathon training. It was busy enough out but manageable. I did run round in circles a bit but I’m used to that and just wanted to get the miles in. Virtual marathon training

So the Dublin marathon has been officially cancelled for this year: first time in 41 years there will be no marathon in Dublin on the October bank holiday weekend. Sad but inevitable. All entries are automatically deferred to next year, unless you want a refund, which is fair enough. I don’t want a refund thanks! However my running coach is still doing marathon training this year, and I have already signed up! We might do a virtual marathon or organise our own. Either way I’m going to train over the summer with a gang, however…

Exerting myself for charity

Today was a charity event at work where we had to run or walk 2 or 5k, take a photo and make a donation. So I exerted myself to extend my run to 3.1 miles/5k. I found I’ve been running a bit faster than usual during the pandemic – for no other reason than I’m anxious to get home.
