Aware 10k Sat 14 Dec 2019
Between one thing and another I haven’t done a whole lot of running lately. I was hoping I would be able to run 10k last Saturday morning and somewhat to my surprise I was!
I really enjoyed it, despite the freezing temperatures. It was only about 3 Celsius with a freezing wind, so I was concerned about standing around in the cold beforehand. I always struggle to dress appropriately in cold weather because I know that once I get going I will warm up very quickly. That said, it took about 5k to warm up on Saturday and get to the stage where I was taking off gear.
It was a beautiful morning and I gave thanks for all my blessings and shed a tear for my lovely Dad who came to cheer me on at this very event a few years ago. Maybe 2015. I could just picture him standing in the sunshine in the Park. Some day I hope these memories will be happy, but now they are still sad.
Despite that I really enjoyed the event which is an important fundraiser for Aware, a mental health charity. There was plenty of goodies and hot chocolate afterwards, plus a medal. My medal tally for 2019 was very low, so that will have to be remedied in 2020. First running objective of the new decade established.
A lovely way to wrap up the year
Yes it was Declan, thanks
