Well it’s a funny old world isn’t it? Here we are thinking we are masters of the universe, making plans for ourselves and thinking we are in control of our lives, when boom, mother nature reasserts herself with a virus that spreads like lightening around the world and turns it upside down. It certainly has exposed a lot of fault lines in the way we have organised our society and who knows the long-term impact?
I had planned to be having a lovely day in Malaga, Spain today, eating tapas and drinking sangria following my half-marathon yesterday. Instead I ran 3 miles around my neighbourhood, carefully avoiding the very few people who were out and about. It was very quiet, which is good, it means people are taking it seriously. Hopefully that will be be maintained.
My 100 miles in February seems like a long time ago now. It was a great experience and with the help of my mother we raised almost EUR2,000 for my Dad’s fund. I was blown-away by people’s generosity and by the number of old friends who got in touch and donated money. The weather was so windy for the whole month and it was very tough in spots, but I’m really glad I got it done before the corona-virus thing kicked off. Chances are we will be working from home for the forseeable future so I will run as much as I can – just have to be mindful of people and give them a wide berth. Runners have to be responsible on the footpaths even though no-one else is, but that’s another story.
Anyway, I hope everyone stays safe and well. If we all do what we are supposed to do it will be over quicker. And hopefully we can stay running.
