Slow and torturous

I took the day off work on Friday as I was totally wrecked after the intense two weeks of quarter-end. Of course I woke up early, so I noodled around for a bit before going out for a run. It was overcast and a bit wet so I was hoping it would be quiet out, and it was ok. It’s actually easier to avoid cars on the road now than pedestrians on the footpath, so I generally run on the road to give no offence and steer clear of people.

Increasingly I think people don’t care about social distancing however; witness the scenes when a popular clothes shop reopened yesterday. People queued for hours to get in, with little social distancing and very few masks. We’ll see how things go but I still intend to be careful and avoid people as much as possible.

I had a lovely run, albeit with plenty of breaks. I have lost the sum total of 1.5 pounds in a month, so that is the usual slow torturous process, which is painful and depressing but I have to try. I will be getting in more miles when training starts so that should help and I am more disciplined in my eating. But as my friend Sharon says ‘you can’t out-train a bad diet’ – you can sing it. I’m doing a charity virtual 5k tomorrow so that will put manners on me today!

How do you do a virtual race julie. Run up and down the kitchen until it’s done.!!!!

    • Well similar but you can go outside!! It’s the Castleknock 5k so you run yourself and take a picture and donate. It’s all the rage in a pandemic.

    • She sure is!!
