Spontaneous combustion on a Saturday morning
My training plan called for a 7-9k long slow run and I was determined to stick to it. I wanted to do at least 5 miles and in the end did 5.25 miles, or 8.4k.
I had breakfast this time, toast and a small banana, with water and coffee earlier in the morning, so was all set for a good run. I checked the weather and it was 8 degrees centigrade, felt like 4, so I wore my marathon finishers top, which is light, and a sleeveless reflective running jacket. I also had gloves and a neck buff because it was very cold starting off.
I was ditching the gloves after a mile, the neck buff after another half, and by two miles I was so hot I thought I would spontaneously combust. It was ridiculous. I tried opening my jacket but that was just annoying; I ended up taking it off at one stage and carrying it, which was even more annoying. I even had to take off my hat, which I really hate. I generally don’t care what I look like when I am running, but today I actually felt people were looking at me I was so red in the face.
But I kept going and lived to tell the tale. I think carrying extra weight makes me Heat up more. So I really need to reconsider my running wardrobe to avoid strange looks on the street. And lose weight. No easy fix for that.
Picture needed! 🙂 It’s cold here ya, probably 4C too. I’m not running
It was enough that I was alarming people in the street, without alarming people on the internet!!
Well done Julie. It was also very cold in West Somerset this morning, but soon warned up with running. My face was redder than my RED January t-shirt!
Cold at the start, hot at the finish – it’s little consolation that, on average, you were probably at a really comfortable temperature.
No not much!!
